Long ago, in a land far away, the queen was panicked,
0:12
her grasp on reality seemingly slipping.
0:16
She had given birth to two boys and one girl.
0:19
But to her horror, before even meeting their father,
0:22
each child vanished, something else taking their place.
0:27
She faced accusations of witchcraft and demon sorcery.
0:30
And though the king loved her, he was easily swayed.
0:34
He soon grew doubtful and banished his wife,
0:36
who left the kingdom in anguish.
0:39
Little did they know,
0:41
the queen’s jealous sisters were the ones to replace the newborns
0:44
with unhuman items.
0:47
They stashed the babies in earthen pots and tossed them into the river.
0:51
And the currents carried each to the home of a holy Brahmin,
0:55
who cherished the children as mysterious blessings,
0:58
and named them Arun, Barun, and Kiranmala.
1:02
They proved more and more extraordinary as they grew,
1:05
Kiranmala especially wise and skilled beyond her years.
1:09
Once the Brahmin passed,
1:11
the siblings devoted themselves to the home he left them.
1:15
One day, a visitor desperate with thirst after losing his way on a hunt,
1:19
sought their help.
1:21
It was the king.
1:22
The years hadn’t been kind to him.
1:24
But under the siblings’ care,
1:26
he felt life brighten inexplicably and was sorry to say goodbye.
1:30
Inspired by the king’s visit, the siblings began building a palace,
1:34
traveling far and wide to collect rare jewels, seeds, and marble slabs.
1:39
Their home became so exquisite that even the divine architects envied it.
1:44
When a holy man stopped by, he told them of a Magic Mountain,
1:48
east of north and north of east,
1:50
where they'd find their most meaningful treasures.
1:54
But, he said, only a true hero could complete the journey.
1:59
First, Arun departed, leaving behind a sword.
2:03
When it rusted, Kiranmala knew an awful fate had befallen him.
2:07
Next, Barun attempted the quest— but when his bow splintered,
2:11
Kiranmala understood she'd lost him too.
2:14
Determined to rescue her brothers and finish the journey,
2:17
she tended to her plants and animals,
2:19
donned the disguise of a prince for safety,
2:21
sharpened her sword, and set off.
2:24
She hadn't trained in hunting or fighting like her brothers.
2:28
And yet, Kiranmala ran with the speed of wind and boldness of fire.
2:33
She scaled Magic Mountain into the sky, dodging lightning bolts all the way.
2:39
At the peak, she found herself on a bejeweled path
2:42
leading towards a glittering tree.
2:44
But blasted statues were strewn around her.
2:48
These, she realized, were the remains of all the men who'd fallen on the quest,
2:52
including her brothers.
2:54
Suddenly she was besieged by wild animals and malicious monsters,
2:58
their voices rising in a cacophonous chorus.
3:01
They menaced, snapped, lobbed vicious threats,
3:04
and warned her to leave before it was too late.
3:08
But Kiranmala stilled her mind and kept her gaze fixed ahead.
3:13
She wouldn't turn back, and she wouldn't respond.
3:17
She landed one step after another until she finally reached the tree,
3:22
where a golden bird greeted her as a worthy hero
3:25
and told her to beat the gong at the tree’s base.
3:29
With one strike, she quieted the deafening din.
3:33
And at the bird’s instruction,
3:34
Kiranmala sprinkled the fountain’s pearly waters across the land.
3:39
As she did, the once-doomed princes sprang back to life and bowed before her.
3:45
She embraced her brothers, then cut one branch from the tree,
3:49
collected water from the spring,
3:51
and settled the bird on her shoulder for the journey home.
3:55
News of Kiranmala’s heroic deeds and heavenly home spread—
3:59
until reaching the ears of the lost, regretful king.
4:02
He paid a visit for dinner and once again felt aglow in the siblings’ presence.
4:08
But when he noticed the table was set with inedible jewels
4:12
and went to complain,
4:13
the golden bird retorted that “if humans couldn’t eat gold, rubies, and pearls,
4:19
how could they give birth to kittens, puppies, and dolls?”
4:22
With this, the king finally understood
4:25
that his queen was the victim of an ugly trick—
4:29
one he’d been foolish enough to fall for.
4:32
These, he realized, were his children, more incredible than he thought possible.
4:38
As the golden bird unraveled the story of their separation,
4:41
Kiranmala determined to clear her mother's name and fully reunite their family.
