0:02I've always found solace being in nature
0:05and to me, diving is a special kind of immersion.
0:15A literal immersion into a world
0:17that feels both strange and familiar.
0:20After all, it's where we came from.
0:23Like all of life.
0:26You know, standing here with this coastline,
0:30it's hard to believe that we're just two hours from Tokyo,
0:32a megacity of 40 million people.
0:36Up until the 19th century
0:38most of Japan’s coastal ecosystems
0:40would have been as pristine as this place.
0:44But two centuries of development have obviously changed that.
0:48I mean, it feels to me that we're at a crucial point
0:52where we have an opportunity
0:53to recalibrate our relationship with the ocean
0:56and I think a key way of doing that moving forward
0:59is to reconnect with it.
1:22Japan’s culture and geography is shaped by the ocean.
1:25It harbors one of the world's most dynamic and species-rich
1:28marine environments.
1:31I think when you spend time in nature,
1:35you feel a natural urge to protect it.
1:41I live in Tokyo.
1:43I’ve always loved nature,
1:46but it's quite hard to connect with nature when you live in a city.
1:51The first time I went to Sumida Aquarium,
1:54there were many jellyfish.
1:56I remember everything was shimmering.
2:00I think thats why I naturally fell in love with the ocean.
2:05I’ve always liked Sakana-kun.
2:08I like his character,
2:09and the way he explains things is really easy to understand.
2:24I learned about marine plastic litter
2:27through the Sakana-kun Exploration Team.
2:30I’d like everyone to do what they can
2:34to reduce marine plastic litter.
2:39Many others share the same opinion
2:42and that makes me happy.
2:46Sakana-kun and SD Blue Earth helped me understand
2:49that if we take care of the ocean,
2:52the ocean will take care of us.
2:57Why did you start Sakana-kun Exploration Team?
3:00I myself get a lot of energy and inspiration from the sea.
3:06You can learn a lot if you have an inquisitive mind.
3:09I want to encourage young children to love and explore the ocean
3:15and I want them to discover for themselves
3:18that a lot of different things take place in the ocean.
3:23I would really like to support them with that.
3:31I heard about this concept here in Japan
3:34called Satoumi,
3:36which is where coastal communities’ interaction
3:39actually benefits the ocean’s health as well as their own.
3:42It's completely reciprocal, symbiotic,
3:44and that’s how it should be. I love that.
3:47And that’s why it’s so important
3:49to provide young people with opportunities
3:52to actually connect with the ocean.
3:55And it's why I love being a Sea Beyond Ambassador.
4:00Sea Beyond,
4:01a Prada Group project in partnership with UNESCO
4:04is providing children around the world
4:06with the knowledge and tools they need
4:08to understand the ocean
4:10and protect it.
